How Intensive Therapy Works
Intensive therapy is structured, collaborative, and focused on measurable change. We move more quickly through the exposure hierarchy and build momentum session to session.
01
Clarify the Pattern
We identify the obsessions, compulsions, and avoidance behaviors maintaining your OCD cycle. This creates a clear treatment target before exposures begin.
02
Build an Exposure Hierarchy
Together we design a graduated plan of exposures tailored to your specific fears and patterns.
03
Practice and Strengthen
With more frequent sessions, there’s less time for OCD to regain ground between appointments. Exposures are practiced in session and between sessions to build real, lasting change.
Who OCD Intensive Therapy Is For
This format tends to be the right fit for people who:
- Are experiencing a significant OCD spike and want focused support now — not in three months
- Are starting treatment and want to make real progress quickly rather than slowly over many months
- Have tried weekly therapy before but didn't make meaningful gains
- Feel like OCD is taking up hours of their day through rumination, checking, or avoidance
- Are motivated to practice exposures between sessions — not just during them
- Want a defined, structured period of treatment rather than open-ended weekly therapy
This format works best for people who are ready to actively engage in ERP — including practicing between sessions. It is not a talk-therapy format.
The Approach
Treatment is grounded in evidence-based methods, applied in a focused and collaborative format.
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
The gold-standard treatment for OCD. ERP reduces fear by gradually approaching triggers while practicing response prevention — resisting compulsions so the brain can learn the obsession is not an emergency. Intensive formats allow ERP to build momentum faster than weekly sessions permit.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Helps you change your relationship to intrusive thoughts and uncertainty. Rather than trying to eliminate doubt or discomfort, you practice making room for them while moving toward the life you want. ACT pairs naturally with ERP — especially for rumination and the urge to seek certainty.
Two Ways to Structure Intensive Treatment
Depending on your schedule, your symptoms, and what makes the most clinical sense, we can approach this in one of two formats. We'll discuss which fits best during your consultation.
High-Frequency Sessions
- 2–3 sessions per week
- 45–60 minutes each
- Typically structured over 4–8 weeks
Best for building momentum and breaking ongoing OCD cycles.
Extended Sessions
- 90–120 minute sessions
- 1–2 times per week
- Deeper in-session exposure work
Best for targeting specific fears with more time for in-session practice.
Fees
Intensive sessions are billed at the same hourly rate as standard sessions — because the work is the same quality, just more concentrated.
60 minutes
$300
90 minutes
$450
120 minutes
$600

How to Get Started
Starting therapy should feel straightforward. Here is what the process looks like.
You do not need everything figured out before reaching out. If you are motivated to feel better and want a more focused approach, we can work with that. The consultation call is practical — you can ask questions about pacing, format, and what intensive therapy would look like for your specific concerns.
01. Schedule a Consultation
A brief 15-minute call to discuss what is bringing you in, your goals, and whether this format is a good fit.
02. Intake and assessment
We clarify your OCD pattern, goals, and triggers in more depth and decide which intensive format to use.
03. Begin structured therapy
We build a tailored exposure hierarchy and begin intensive sessions at a pace that is challenging and purposeful.
Frequently Asked Questions
OCD intensive therapy is a strong fit for people experiencing an acute OCD spike, those who want to make faster progress at the start of treatment, or anyone who has tried weekly therapy without meaningful gains. It requires a willingness to actively practice ERP between sessions.
The treatment method is the same — ERP and ACT. The difference is frequency and structure. More sessions per week means less time for OCD patterns to reassert themselves between appointments, and longer sessions allow for deeper in-session exposure work.
